do you remember the flood?
2008, the river a lake
our city covered in mud
and everything destroyed
my volkswagon passat and old innocent spots
like it was all a ploy
to push us down the river
to learn to let go, move with the ebb and flow
closure for beginners
funny how such filthy water
full of mud and debris, shit and disease
is such a cleansing offer
but the red bird said it ain't gonna rain
it ain't gonna rain no more
rained last night and the night before
but it ain't gonna rain
no more
now its raining like it was back then
the river was long, the snow tardy to thaw
and we're all a little frightened
but the sewer starts backing up
water in the streets and overflowing creeks
and the dam's almost had enough
but a solitary voice calls out
a long winged prophet in robes of scarlet
with meteorologic clout
but if its song of fortune is true
the rain will cease, riverbanks retreat
along with any chance to renew
but the red bird said
it ain't gonna rain
it ain't gonna rain no more
rained last night and the night before
but it ain't gonna rain
no more
so bring on the rain
bring on the flood
bring on the roadblocks
bring on the mud
clean out our city
clean out our past
clean out our habits
a cleanliness that lasts
but when it rains it pours
and its a monsoon or more
like a bottomless vessel
upturned on our castle
but if it floods
we'll roll up the rugs
move the couch
and weather it out
there's cans in the cupboard
candles, board games, and other
things to do if we get bored
Don't believe the name of their latest album; jangle-pop hooks and stacked grunge guitars are two of the Bay Area band's greatest gifts. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 16, 2023
Shoegaze, post-rock, black metal, dark ambient: if it's gloomy and surreal, you'll find it on the Arizona outfit's excellent second LP. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 14, 2022
In songs that swing from giant and anthemic to distortion-caked and widescreen, Lightning Cult conjure galaxies of sound. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 18, 2022
