lyrics

after the snow’s all melted
and the wind is at its peak
its time to bust out the rake,
but not for leaves
‘cause all this shit turns up
used condoms and coffee cups
and discarded husks
of chips and candy bars

well there’s power in
this chicago springtime breeze
elevating plastic bags
to living in the trees
like some kind of crinkled up bird
with its airy song exhaled and slurred
but it don’t carry
that same weight no more

TV cable ivy climbing up the wall
sunflower antennae stretching, growing tall
four-door steed’s horseshoes, tired of the track
a tungsten midnight sun rose when all else
fades to black

and there ain’t so much wildlife
as there are remains of wild nights
and the flora and fauna
are just neutered cats and marijuana
but the landscape’s somehow the same
parking lot mountains and skyscraper plains
but the one piece that don’t quite fit -
anything can be trash if you let it

a dimebag pouch
scurries across the street
slips into the sewer
from the fast approaching heat
but no one ever asks why
it’s just looking for shelter tonight
but it’s its turn to hit the sack
and refill itself of what it lacks
we all want that too,
how could you turn your back?
well its time that we respect the rights of trash
