i remember that song i did hear
when your hands slid your headphones down on my ears
and the quarter note jangle of doubled guitars
and a voice that didn’t sound like it could exit doug marsch
we were driving 100, finger tips on the wheel
and with the gentlest touch, you know it all gets real
when we almost crashed this eponymous car
like it was built to wreck, but it never went that far
and you were more like a dream
that should have been on a movie screen
we took apart the world and figured out how it worked
but when we put it back together it worked a little worse
we replaced everything just where it was found
but there were just a few parts lying around
but rather than trying to consult a map
you know i threw my hands up, i said “enough of this shit,”
my car runs okay, i’ve already got a guide
its time that i leave and maybe go for a drive
but you were more like a dream
that should have been on a movie screen
i’m stoned on a sunny, breezy, midwest afternoon
and i hope that you’ll be riding shotgun again soon
i found out what comets, stars, and moons are all about
i felt the perspective of the moon shift from itself
i want to read
books adapted from movies of my dreams
and i want to sing
songs about songs about dreams about everything
