lyrics

marks and tones have no concept of shame
even if the curves and planes are the same

tentative lines – dusty placeholders
carving away – at the blades of shoulders
gestural spine – erase the axis
brush it away – not the form it captures

depth in tone – detail in eyes
facial features – crucified
papyrus tooth – ashen nail
speckled texture – gestures prevail

does the bend in your back come from the weight that you’ve carried?
do these shades of burned black capture all of your worries?
and how much of this is you?
how much of this is me?
can there be pure objectification
or universally unique?

stretching tendons – fingers unfurled
contorted muscles – neck is curled
shifting poses – new scenery
landscape angles – and pubic trees

curves so complex – convex, concave
motion inherent – planes like waves
twist in the spine – bend in the legs
what destination? – flat on the page

does the bend in your back come from the weight that you’ve carried?
do these shades of burned black capture all of your worries?
and how much of this is you?
how much of this is me?
can there be pure objectification
or universally unique?

but the chest still lifts
and the head still shifts
extended arms tremble
my perspective changes angle

looking back and forth
mark gestures racing toward it
with so much turmoil
how could this not be temporal?

well is anybody every really nude?
especially when in another’s view?
i feel naked sometimes even fully clothed
and on every break we take, you put on your robe
is there something else obscured under garb?
maybe something even nakedness could guard?

well these marks and tones have no concept of shame
even if the curves and planes are the same

these marks and tones have no concept of shame
so i guess i don’t have my body to blame
